Every year more than 300,000 pets go missing. Some of these pets are lucky enough to be reunited with their owner because they are microchipped. Sadly, some pets that are not microchipped will end up at a rehoming centre, never to see their devastated owners again.
Vets, local authorities, animal welfare organizations and charities all have microchip scanners. If your pet strays and is picked up by one of these organizations, it will be scanned for a microchip.
Microchips are a small capsule, the size of a grain of rice and once inserted into your pet, they provide a permanent, inexpensive form of identification for the duration of your pets life.
The microchip is inserted into the scruff of the neck via a quick injection and each microchip contains a unique 15 digit code. The 15 digit code is then registered with your contact details on a national microchip register.
Vets, local authorities, animal welfare organizations and charities have microchip scanners. Therefore, should your pet be lost or stolen they can be easily identified and reunited with you as quickly as possible.
Puppies and kittens can have a microchip implanted when they have their primary vaccinations.
Microchips are free for pets who are enrolled in the Healthy Pet Club!
We offer a 50% discount on microchip implantation when your pet has a microchip implanted whilst under general anaesthesia for any routine surgery, such as neutering.
Currently, Castle Vets are offereing Free Microchips for dogs as part of the Dogs Trust microchipping scheme. This is running until April 2015.
