Fact or Fiction?

Lilies and lily pollen are toxic to your cat if ingested or it gets on their coats. FACT!

Chocolate is poisonous to dogs - the darker the chocolate the more poisonous! FACT!

Grapes and raisins can be very toxic to some dogs and to a lesser extent so are onions and leeks. FACT!

Cats and dogs lick their wounds clean. FICTION!

Actually their tongues are very rough and they stop the wound from healing through licking. In addition, the bugs from their mouths actually infect the wound.

Female cats and dogs should have a litter for 'good health' or to 'calm them down' FICTION! but spaying can help with both.

Neutering your pet makes them fat FICTION!

Feeding them too much does!

Dogs are natural athletes and can survive at full activity levels with very little food in the wild. FACT! Naturally they are also opportunists and scavengers so don't succumb to their pleading eyes - they aren't really hungry! Slim really is healthy AND happy! Cutting food back is just as important as increasing excercise in the battle of the bulge.

It's normal for a dog or cat to have a few fleas. FICTION! If you are seeing fleas on your animal, there are likely to be fleas in your home too - be sure to flea treat your pet to prevent them from getting fleas in the first place.

If you can't see worms in your pet's feaces, then they do not have them. FICTION!
A parasitic worm will spend the majority of its lifecycle in the digestive tract of your pet. The only time it spends outside is when it is an egg or larvae which are so small you would only be able to see them under a microscope.

Chewing gum is poisonous to pets. FACT! It contains an ingredient called 'xylitol' which is used as a sugar substitute for sugar-free gum. should your pet ingest sugar-free gum, it will rapidly drop its blood-sugar levels which causes them to go into a coma. Should your pet survive this part, there can still be irreversible damage to the liver which can again, be fatal.
